Two arrested after police seize illicit drugs

The township has been besieged by drug peddlers and violence for years.

Police officers arrested two men who were allegedly found in possession of drugs in Reiger Park.

Members of the Gauteng anti-gang unit pounced on the pair, aged 40 and 47, on January 22.

According to the Reiger Park police, officers acting on information stormed into the address near Golden Centre and found crystal meth, Cat and dagga with a street value of more than R10 000.

Money believed to be the proceeds from crime was also seized during the bust, and the two arrested suspects were charged with possession of and dealing in drugs.

The township has been besieged by drug peddlers and violence for years.

A couple of people were shot dead during the festive season in what community members believe is gang war. The recent deadly shootings triggered community intervention and prompted authorities to deploy various police units, including the Gauteng’s anti-gang unit, to try and quell the situation.
