Men caught in the act of producing fake gold

Boksburg North police spokesperson Const Justice Ramaube said no case docket was opened and no one was arrested.

Four suspicious men were recently caught coating stones in gold spray paint at a park in Jansen Park on January 18.

When members of the community noticed the suspicious activity, they phoned Clinton Festraets from First Responder East Rand and other law-enforcement agencies, including the SAPS and EMPD.

According to Festraets, when they arrived at the park they found four men spray-painting the stones.

“We then searched their BMW and found what looked like gold inside the boot. We proceeded to the nearby house of one of the men and found more gold in his house.”

Some of the fake gold found.

Festraets said they inspected the nuggets and found them to be fake.

Festraets said they suspect that the men were conning buyers into believing the nuggets were real.

“We suspect that they coat the black stones with gold spray paint to make it seem like real gold. We are continuing to keep a close eye on the men,” he explained.
