Cable theft suspect caught

The incident took place on January 18 at around 9pm in Pretoria Road.

The Boksburg North SAPS arrested a 24-year-old man for tampering with infrastructure, after he was caught trying to steal a cable.

According to Boksburg North spokesperson, Const Justice Ramaube a 40-year-old man, who works as a security guard, alleged that while he was on duty with his colleague he spotted a man digging a hole.

“The men notified their supervisor who accompanied them to the spot where they saw the man digging.

“It was discovered that the suspect was about to cut and steal the cable.”

Ramaube said the suspect tried to flee but he was cornered by the community before being handed over to the police.

He will appear in the Boksburg Magistrate’s Court soon.
