Home Affairs extends its operating times

The extension of operating hours excludes weekends.

To ensure people are not turned away from Home Affairs offices during this busy period before the schools reopen, the Department of Home Affairs is extending its operating hours from 8am to 7pm every weekday until January 10.

The Department of Home Affairs spokesperson, Siya Qoza, said at the beginning of each year, the department experiences increases in demand for enabling documents such as issuance of smart ID cards, passports, birth and death certificates and for amendments and rectifications.

“The department will ensure that everyone who is inside an office at the time of closing receives required services.

“Office managers and supervisors are to apply their discretion to close the office 30 minutes prior to knocking-off time or subject to the number of people being serviced. This is to allow officials to conclude all the necessary work before 7pm,” Qoza said.

The department encourages people intending to visit their offices to do so as early as they can on their preferred day.

Qoza urged people who have applied for smart ID cards but haven’t collected them because of time constraints to use this opportunity to come and collect them.
