Harambee BRT system suspended because of vandalism, intimidation

According to the metro spokesperson, Themba Gadebe, operations on the route in question will remain suspended until December 20.

Intimidation against the Harambee Bus Rapid Transport (BRT) system has prompted the metro to suspend the bus service operating between Tembisa and OR Tambo International Airport to protect bus drivers and commuters.

A group of people, the metro described as “rowdy passengers”, reportedly forced their way in, intimidated and threatened drivers and commuters and vandalised the buses.

“The rowdy passengers are mainly those who commonly use the Prasa trains, which have been suspended until December 20,” said Gadebe.

As a results of these decisions, scores of commuters have now been left stranded.
