Benoni Flying Squad recovers stolen vehicles, arrests suspects

The BFS team also arrested a suspect for theft after responding to a complaint at 5th Avenue, Northmead, Benoni.

The Benoni Flying Squad (BFS) has over the weekend arrested suspects and recovered four motor vehicles, as well as a motorcycle, reportedly stolen in separate incidents in Boksburg, Benoni and other nearby towns.

According to the Benoni Flying Squad spokesperson, WO Grant Giblin, the first car, a Volkswagen Citi Golf, was recovered in Reiger Park.

Information received led members of the unit to Goedehoop Avenue where one suspect was arrested after being found in possession of the car which was reportedly stolen in the Benoni area.

Working with members of a vehicle tracking company, the team recovered another car, a silver Toyota Yaris in Huruthse Street, Daveyton, where two suspects were arrested after being found with the car displaying false registration plates.

Further investigation revealed that it was earlier reportedly stolen in Hercules.

In further policing, two more stolen vehicles and a motorcycle were recovered. A stolen white Isuzu truck was found near the intersection of Glengory and Queensburg roads in Benoni after it was hijacked on the N12 and reported at Benoni police station; a white Nissan Navara was found on Republic Road in Ivory Park, and was reportedly hijacked in the Olievenhoutbosch area.

A red Honda motorcycle was found at Alexandra Plaza and was previously also reported stolen in the Olievenhoutbosch area.

Investigation continues in all cases, and the suspects, aged between 17 and 33, are expected to appear in the respective courts facing charges of possession of stolen motor vehicle and theft.
