WATCH: Shopping craze as consumers target bargains on Black Friday

The Advertiser spent the morning at major shopping centres in the city centre to bring you live updates of what was going down in the respective retail outlets.

Black Friday kicked off in various retail stores across the city this morning, and most of the outlets have slashed prices on hundreds of products, including savings on TV sets, mobile phones and food products.

Although on the day many retailers which offered selected goods on sale were busier than usual, the shopping craze was not as hectic as anticipated.

Apart from long queues at the East Rand Mall and East Point, the rest of the city’s shopping centres were relatively quiet, with everything continuing in the normal way throughout the morning.

However, some centres predicted there would be a spike in shopping from the afternoon until closing time in the evening.

Hundreds of people were, however, noticed taking advantage of the Black Friday deals at some outlets, including the Game store, Pick n Pay, Footgear, Nike Factory and others in the East Rand Mall and East Point.

It appeared electrical appliances, including TV sets and a range of smaller consumer electronic devices, were the bargain hunters’ favourites at Games store as many shoppers were seen heading straight for such merchandise as the doors opened at midnight.
