Law enforcement operation nets seven speeding drivers, drug dealer

Three of the seven drivers were taken to Boksburg north police station and were charged with reckless and negligent driving.

The EMPD Speed Enforcement with Drug Enforcement Unit/s members, apprehended eight offenders in Alberton, Boksburg, Bedfordview and Vosloorus areas, for driving over the required speed limit and possession of narcotics between Friday and Saturday, November 22 and 23.

According to Kobeli Mokheseng, EMPD spokesperson, on Friday at 8am on the R21 freeway direction south between Griffiths off-ramp and N12 bridge, the EMPD Speed Unit Members arrested a man (37) for speeding.

“He was driving a charcoal Toyota light delivery vehicle, clocking 164km/h for no apparent reason on the throughway requiring 100km/h,” said Mokheseng.

He said two other motorists were caught doing 147km/h and 161km/h on the same stretch of road.

Others drivers were caught speeding on the N12 freeway direction west between Edenvale on-ramp and Gillooly’s interchange, and also on the N12 freeway direction east between R59 bridge and Voortrekker off-ramp.

* On Saturday, the EMPD Drug Enforcement Unit Members on a crime prevention blitz, stopped and body searched a suspicious looking man, found idling next to Nguni flats by Malasa Road in Vosloorus.

Officers found four ziplocks of khat and one ziplock of dagga valued at R820 on him.

The suspect was booked in at Vosloorus Police Station on charges of possession and dealing in illicit substances.
