Man arrested for opening a false hijacking case

The driver recently opened a case, claiming he had been hijacked of his employer’s truck as he was about to deliver food in Reiger Park.

A delivery truck driver got more than he had bargained for after making a fool of the police by fabricating a hijacking incident.

According to the police report, the man claimed to have been accosted by assailants who pointed a firearm at him and his crew members. They then allegedly forced them into another vehicle, a BMW, before driving off with them.

He claimed the crew members were dumped next to the N3 and he was dropped in Wadeville.

He then added the hijackers subsequently returned the truck to him. He then allegedly drove it to the police station where he reported the hijacking incident and that he had noticed that the R21 000 which was in the safe had been stolen.

An investigation was immediately launched and the investigating officer, Const Mabena, picked up a number of discrepancies between the complainant’s account and what actually transpired.

It also emerged that the safe, where he claimed the money was stolen from, was never opened during the said period.

It subsequently became apparent that it was all a lie.

Mabena arrested the complainant and charged him with theft, perjury and defeating the ends of justice. The suspect was scheduled to appear in the Boksburg Magistrate’s Court this week.
