Charity organisation needs support for Christmas outreach

The NPO's projects are free to the poorest of the poor people in the community. They do not receive any funds from the government and therefore rely heavily on donations.

The Hanna Charity and Empowerment Foundation needs the community’s support to ensure the success of its Boksburg North community Christmas outreach that will take place on November 23.

“At the end of each year, we have Christmas outreaches in all our areas, where we hand out clothes, presents, food parcels and a meal on the day to the people within these communities,” said Charlene Jackson, Boksburg and Benoni manager of the foundation.

“We want them to also enjoy the Christmas feeling, even if it is for one day. We also want to make sure that they have food over the month of December as the charity will also take a break during this month and most people won’t have any help in this regard.”

She stressed that they are in need of donations to make this happen.

“We are still in desperate need of food parcels (55), hot dog Viennas, cold drink for 300 people, sweet packets for 150 children and gifts for our very special teachers (we have two teachers from our community that we would like to thank for the year of hard work).”

She added that they will not be able to do what they do without generous donations from the public.

“If you are considering blessing us, please note that we have more than enough presents for the children and more than enough clothes to hand out on this day.

“We are registered with Sars as an NPO and we can provide your company with a section 18A certificate where you can claim back from Sars for supporting us.

“The foundation is a registered NPO and NGO that serves more than 8 000 people all over South Africa. At Hanna Charity, we do not only provide the basic needs of the needy, but also commit ourselves to developing a relationship with the communities in which we serve.”

The foundation aims to empower and uplift the community by establishing long-term projects, such as:

• Womanhood, where they meet the women of the community once a week to help them discover and develop new skills, including knitting, needlework and more

• Bible study, where they teach the Word of God to the community once a week

• Sisterhood, which involves staging different projects with teenage girls within the community to help them to develop better self-esteem and strong moral values, to prevent teenage pregnancy and abuse

• A clothing bank, where community members can come and get clothing, homeware and linen once a week

• A soup kitchen, feeding the community at least twice a month

• A mentorship programme that aims to help teenagers in the community with a successful and committed mentor who can guide them throughout their teenage life by enrolling in their mentorship programme.

• Pikanini Daycare Centre, an edu-care centre established by the foundation where the children from the community receive three meals a day and proper education at no cost.
