Reiger Park police arrest alleged murderer

The Reiger Park police stressed that people’s lives should be respected, and they reminded the public that taking the law into their own hands is a serious crime.

The Reiger Park police have arrested a 38-year-old man for allegedly battering another man to death on October 27.

The Reiger Park police received the murder complaint at about 8.10am and they rushed to Driefontein, also known as KwaGumede informal settlement.

Officers came across a man who claimed another man grabbed his cellphone. The alleged cellphone grabber told him he was taking the cellphone because the complainant owed him R1 500.

The complainant took the police to the man he claimed took his cellphone, and he pointed out an unresponsive man lying in a pool of blood, with open wounds to his forehead, mouth and eye. There were bricks and stones next to the body of the man, who paramedics subsequently certified dead on the scene.

The man reportedly told the police that he assaulted the unidentified man who grabbed his phone, but didn’t kill him. The police arrested the man on the scene and he was charged with murder. He was scheduled to appear in the Boksburg Magistrate’s Court this week.
