Local primary schools join in on St Francis Day celebrations

The purpose of the day was to memorialise St Francis of Assisi who founded the St Franciscan order. He is remembered for his generosity to the poor and his willingness to minister to the lepers.

The St Francis Care Centre commemorated their annual St Francis Day on October 10.

This year the centre held a debate competition for primary schools on the topic “Technology breaks down communication in the family”.

Three primary schools, Dawn Park, Lakeside and Goede Hoop participated in the debate.

Lakeside was the overall winner that walked away with a R500 cash prize, certificates and fleece blankets.

The overall best speaker was Mpumzi Cape from Dawn Park Primary. Second best speaker was Leshandré Ferris from Goede Hoop and the third best speaker was Auwyzn van Rooyen from Lakeside.

Dawn Park Primary also entertained the audience with three dances, which included Mango Groove, gumboots and xibelani.

St Francis provides hospice and palliative care for persons suffering from threatening and/or life-limiting conditions where they will be cared for in a professional and comfortable environment while their physical, spiritual, emotional and social needs are catered for with care and dedication.

The centre is dependent on financial support from donors to continue rendering its services.
