Robbers tie up domestic worker, ransack house

Police have again warned domestic workers against letting strangers onto their boss’s property without proper verification

Using false identification, a gang of robbers tricked a domestic worker into letting them onto her boss’s property before they cleaned out the house.

According to the Boksburg SAPS spokesperson, Const Ntsako Ledwaba, it was at about 9am on October 14 when the 56-year-old domestic worker was reportedly approached by two men, described as African males driving a white bakkie.

They told the unsuspecting worker that they were sent out to evaluate the property. Their bakkie was parked hidden from the street at the back of the house, before they entered the house through one of the doors which was left ajar.

Things began to take an ominous turn when the so-called evaluators asked the domestic worker to remain quiet or face being shot. She was tied up with her shoelaces.

They then started to help themselves to the house content; stealing goods including three TV sets, sound system, PlayStation, jewellery and other electronic devices.

They loaded their about R150 000 worth of stolen goods onto the bakkie and fled the scene.

Police are investigating a case of house robbery and appeal to anyone with information to come forward.

“All that domestic workers or gardeners need to do is to call their respective employers and ask them if they know of the person/s who claim to be sent out to render service at the house,” said Ledwaba.
