Theft of motor vehicles continue unabated in Boksburg

A number of vehicles have been stolen in different parts of Boksburg for the past couple of years and there appears to be no end in sight to the problem as police are struggling to crack down on the car theft gangs.

• In the latest incidents, a white Ford Ranger was stolen while parked outside the Boksburg City Stadium on October 4. According to the police report, the victim parked her vehicle at about 2pm and went inside the stadium.

But when she returned to the parking area at about 3.44pm the bakkie was gone. A hand bag containing a driver’s licence, bank cards, firearm licence and money and house keys were among the items that were inside the stolen vehicle. The vehicle, worth about R360 000, is insured.

• A man had his grey Toyota Hilux stolen while parked outside a business on Rondebult Road in Parkdene on October 2. The victim told the police that he parked the vehicle at about 12.45pm and went inside the business called Be Dazzled, to collect his daughter’s dress. When he returned to the spot a few minutes later the vehicle was nowhere to be found. The stolen vehicle is insured.

•A truck was stolen from the parking lot of the Boksburg Civic Centre in broad daylight on October 2. The driver told the police that he parked the vehicle and went into the civic centre to make payments.

It was when he returned to the parking lot a few minutes later that he discovered that the truck was nowhere. The truck is not insured.

• A Vosloorus man was left stranded after thieves stole his Mazda Rustler bakkie after he parked it in the roadside parking on Commissioner Street, Boksburg CBD, on October 2. The car owner told the police that he parked his vehicle and went inside Spar to do shopping. When he returned to the spot the car was gone. It is not insured.

• In Libradene, thieves forced opened the gate of a residential property in Bigwood Avenue and stole a motorcycle. The complainant told the police that the motorcycle was in the yard when he went to sleep at about 11.30pm October 5.

When he woke up at about 6.45am on October 5, the victim discovered that thieves forced opened the gate to enter the property and stole the motorcycle. It is insured.

• Two more motorcycles were also stolen from a residential property on Trichardts Road in Parkrand sometime between October 3 and 4. Thieves forced their way into the yard and the garage where they stole both motorcycles while the victims were asleep.
