Cook & Culture: Social calendar is filling up so stay energised

October is Breast Cancer Awareness Month and there are ample initiatives that you can support.

The year is slowly coming to an end, and many social events fill our calendars. Here are some tips and tricks to keep you fuelled and flourishing this month.

Digital

When you are using Facebook, Instagram and other social media applications for business, make sure to use the right lingo for your target market. You can use the schedule function on FB to schedule a post on your page, or download an app to schedule Facebook and Instagram posts for specific time slots.

Pro Tip

For the executives who spend time on the road, be ready and prepared. Also keep a bag with an umbrella, some wet wipes, a hairbrush and maybe a jacket in your car boot so that you look professional at any time. Remember to pack an umbrella in your children’s school bags.

Delicious Appetiser

You can impress guests by plating up a simple, yet beautiful and delicious appetiser without slaving over the stove for hours or breaking the bank.

A delicious summer appetiser idea: Slice half of a ripe avocado and fan out on a plate. Fry some halloumi cheese, some fresh prawns and add some peppadews over the halloumi. Mix some cottage cheese and Greek yoghurt for a dip, and serve on some fresh rocket leaves.

Home Remedy

Nothing lasts forever, and it is so important to save as much electricity and water as possible. Close the tap while you are brushing your teeth or washing your face, and with the sun shining for longer this spring, don’t switch your house lights on too early in the afternoon. Be aware of how much electricity and water you are using, and remember, less is more!

Check It Out

Be sure to stay on top of all the community activities by reading the What’s On column in the Boksburg Advertiser and Benoni City Times. They are quick and easy ways to get information on what events/meetings/ gatherings are coming up near you.

Community Star

A big shout-out to all the community members who recycle paper, glass and plastic on a weekly basis. It is so important to recycle and look after our community and planet. You can also assist in recycling by placing glass and plastic in different dustbins or bags when throwing out your trash. This will make it easier for the garbage collectors to recycle.

Charity

For the ladies, there are many breast cancer initiatives in October in our areas. Join one of the ladies’ teas you feel is worthy. The Cancer Association of South Africa (Cansa) is one of the well-known ones.
