New members of the EMPD ready to tackle lawlessness

Recently, the EMPD, in its quest to deal with violent public protests in a non-lethal fashion and in line with the Constitution, ordered seven Nyalas, the multi-purpose armed vehicles.

On September 30 at the Ekurhuleni Metro Police Department head quarters, 263 recruits, who recently completed their 18 months course, gathered in one of the auditoriums along with the EMPD Chief of Police Jabulani Isaac Mapiyeye and his management team.

The thrilled 171 men and 92 women officers are now ready and prepared to fight crime, enforce municipal by-laws and traffic law. This is according to Kobeli Mokheseng, EMPD media liaison officer.

“Initially, the number was 270 recruits in January 2018 during the enrollment but due to four having criminal records and three traffic wardens who opted out of the course, we now sit with seven less,” said Mokheseng.

After the Chief of Police and management completed allocating members accordingly in the regions of deployment, he closed by saying: “Lawlessness won’t be tolerated in the City of Ekurhuleni.

“Remember that the mayor Mzwandile Masina welcomed, congratulated and addressed all of you after a pass out parade, so go out there, serve, protect and defend the communities of Ekurhuleni, beef up the police visibility and make us proud. ”
