Four drivers nabbed for excessive speeding in Boksburg area

All the offenders were charged with reckless and negligent driving at the Boksburg north police station and are expected to appear in the Boksburg Magistrate’s Court soon.

The EMPD Speed Enforcement Unit arrested four drivers for exceeding the speed limit of 100km/h on Albertina Sisulu (R21) freeway direction south (between Griffiths turnoff and the N12 bridge) on Tuesday, between 6am and 11am.

According to Kobeli Mokheseng, EMPD media liaison officer, a 28-year old man in a white Mercedes Benz C-class clocked the highest speed of 178km/h .

“He was nabbed at 6.20am, claiming that he test driving his new wheels. The second highest was a 30-year old man in a white Toyota Quantum minibus taxi, caught doing 165km/h stating that he was late to collect travelers from Daveyton to Eastern Cape,” said Mokheseng,.

The rest of offenders including an Uber driver, registered speeds of between 165 and 157km/h citing late for work or late to pick up a client, as reasons for not obeying the rules of the road.
