Police arrest second Van Dyk Park house robbery suspect

The second suspect managed to flee the scene with the stolen items

A second suspect who fled the scene after an armed house robbery in Van Dyk Park in August was recently arrested in Tembisa.

An armed response officer and another house robbery suspect were rushed to hospital on August 11 after sustaining gunshot wounds from a shoot-out between the two in Van Dyk Park.

The second suspect fled the scene with stolen items in the getaway vehicle.

While the owner of the house and his friends were sitting inside the garage, two men entered the premises with one of the men holding a firearm.

Dawn Park SAPS spokesperson Const Nkemeleng Mabula said the suspects allegedly demanded cellphones, money and car keys from the victims.

“When the armed response officers responded to the house robbery call, they spotted a suspicious vehicle and they ordered one of the suspects who was driving the vehicle of the owner of the house to pull over,” Mabula said.

The suspect allegedly took out a firearm and pointed it at the armed response officer who reacted by shooting back at the suspect.

“The second suspect (29) was arrested at his house after thorough investigation of his whereabouts,” Mabula said.
