DA shocked by high rate of murder in Boksburg

The DA lamented that all four local police stations have crippling staff shortages.

Residents of Boksburg are under siege, as the murder rate increased by a staggering 20.16 per cent across all four police station precincts.

This is according to Mike Waters MP. He said this was revealed in the latest annual crime statistics by the South African Police Service (SAPS), which shows an alarming increase in crime in Gauteng.

“In Boksburg, the picture is equally horrifying. The Boksburg North Police station appears in the top 30 for the highest number of crimes in the country for different category crimes, truck hijacking reporting the eighth highest, theft of motor vehicles and motorcycles is third and robbery of non-residential premises at number 20,” said Waters.

“Dawn Park Police station is 75 per cent under staffed, followed by Reiger Park at 74 per cent, Boksburg North is at 52 per cent and Boksburg Police station is at 45 per cent.

He said the DA has repeatedly raised the issue of the chronic shortages of police officers at all four Boksburg police stations, among other.

“Until our police stations are adequately staffed, we will never win the fight against crime.”
