Mrs Gauteng finalist wants to help those in need

Through the RoleModels Foundation, the Mrs Gauteng pageant empowers disadvantaged communities through education and skills development.

Simoné Botha (29) from Boksburg is a Mrs Gauteng 2019 finalist, and is determined to use this platform to make a difference in the community.

The finalist explained that this foundation hosts philanthropic pageants across South Africa and uses funding and donated items to intervene in impoverished communities. Their projects specifically target abused women and children and senior citizens, who are the three most vulnerable groups.

“I am an individual devoted to helping others and because of this passion, I was drawn to this pageant. It really is a great honour to have been selected as a finalist,” said the mother of two.

“As a finalist, I’m very excited to be involved in charity work. One of the things we have to do is sell lollipops for R10 each. The project is called Poverty Sucks. By buying the lollipops, people can help us to educate, feed and empower the deprived. We’re also creating a facility where less fortunate children can go to discover themselves amid the chaos in their lives trough camping.

“I’m also collecting items, such as non-perishable food and clothing, on a regular basis to distribute among those in need. Even donating something small can make a big difference.”

Botha, who was also a Mrs Cape Town 2017 finalist, said she also wants to use this platform to address mental issues and encourage self-love and self-acceptance.

“Self-love and self-acceptance are the key foundations to acknowledge that you are worthy and that you’re here for a reason. You have to learn to love and accept yourself before you can expect others to love and accept you. We’ve all been created uniquely for a purpose,” she added.

“I had a difficult childhood as I lost my father at a young age and my mother left after his death. I want to prove to people that they can rise above their circumstances. People should know they can achieve anything they set their minds to, despite their past.”
