BEWARE! Fake cops active in Boksburg, robbing motorists

Officers have launched a search for the bogus cops and appealed for any information that may lead to the arrests of the thugs.

Bogus police officers have again struck in Boksburg, and this time they robbed the driver and his passenger of their belongings.

According to Boksburg police reports, at about 8pm on September 4, the fake cops driving in a vehicle with flashing blue lights signalled to a driver of a blue brand-new Ford Ranger Raptor to stop as he and his friend were driving along Atlas Road on their way to Parkrand.

The driver pulled over on Jubilee Road and one man, described as an African male, approached the victim’s vehicle and asked to see the driver’s licence of the man behind the steering wheel.

He gave it to the so-called cop, but all of a sudden another man emerged and opened the rear passenger door. Both victims were grabbed by their neck and pulled towards the back seat.

The impersonators threatened to shoot the pair before stealing their personal belongings, including a Casio watch, two Apple iPhones, R14 000 and a wallet containing an ID card, R3 200 in Manat currency and a gun licence.

The victims were tied up and left in the open veld.

* This incident came barely two weeks after a gang of carjackers who were using a vehicle fitted with police blue lights and pretending to be police officers hijacked a Toyota double cab bakkie along Trichardts Road near the R554 on August 28.

According to the Boksburg SAPS spokesperson, Const Ntsako Ledwaba, the gang posing as police officers flashed the blue lights to signal to their target, a Brakpan man, to stop at about 6.30pm.

The driver complied and pulled over before the thugs pounced on him.

They were driving in what the driver said appeared to be a BMW or Golf 7.

No shots were fired, no injuries were reported and no arrests have been made in both incidents.
