Xenophobia: Multiple structures burnt around the Ekurhuleni metro

The City of Ekurhuleni Disaster and Emergency Management Services remains on high alert to render

In the early hours of Tuesday morning, three shops were set alight in Vosloorus Gold Spot after they were looted by members of the public.

According to William Ntladi, district manager media liaison of Emergency Services, said Vosloorus fire fighting crews backed-up by firefighters from Wadeville fire station, managed to save what was to be a disaster.

“Several shops were exposed and at high risk of a potential burn as they share the same building. The swift intervention and the presence of law enforcement units remedied the situation,” said Ntladi.

Three people also sustained serious injuries while trying to extinguish seven shacks gutted by flames in Madelakufa-two informal settlement Tembisa yesterday and had to be urgently hospitalised as a result.

Several other properties burnt down as well across the City.
