Metro to repair Boksburg Library’s adult section before the rainy season arrives

The section of the facility was damaged by heavy rains early this year and was declared unsafe, prompting the metro to close it. Authorities have since been trying to get the right contractor to carry out repairs.

Ekurhuleni metro officials are fast-tracking the process to appoint a contractor to repair the damaged part of the Boksburg Library adult section roofing before the rainy season arrives.

When asked for an update on the tender process, metro spokesperson Themba Gadebe said: “The City has appointed consultants to do a thorough conditional assessment on the roof and to develop bills of quantities (BQQ).

“In addition to the appointment of consultants, the City is also following the process of appointing the contractor to fast-track the repairs before the rainy season.”

The tender process is expected to be concluded by the end of September.

The Advertiser reported early this month (August 6) that the metro was still looking for a contractor to repair the damaged library section.

After the closure of the section of the library, this publication has been inundated with calls and emails from readers complaining about the state of the facility and that they are still being kept in the dark about when the municipality plans to address the library issues.

Senior librarian Jacky Moekoa said despite the closure of the damaged section, library users still have access to the adult section material, which they can request through the junior section of the library.
