Blocked drain causes all kinds of problems for Tim Street residents

Even though the problem has been attended to, the resident believes the manhole will be blocked again in a few months.

A resident in Tim Street struggled to use his lavatory for approximately three weeks as a manhole in the street was blocked.

The blocked manhole affects several houses on the street, as they experienced the same problem, according to the resident, who wished to remain anonymous.

“I’ve been struggling to use my toilet and it’s definitely due to the blocked manhole. Other houses are also affected, but my house is the closest to the manhole so I’m struggling the most,” said the resident.

He added that it is not the first time the drain has given him problems.

“The municipality needs to unblock the manhole about every three months and they usually do it within eight days. It’s inconvenient not to be able to use your toilet and it’s unpleasant for me to tell guests they’re unable to use my toilet.”

In the meantime, the problem was attended to, but the resident believes the manhole will be blocked again in a few months.

According to Nhlanhla Cebekhulu, metro spokesperson, a faulty stormwater pipe along Tim Street next to Dayan Avenue is the reason why the manhole is constantly blocked.

“The problem will be attended to in the first week of September, as we have ordered the two stormwater pipes.”
