Video: Operation Okae Molao hits the streets of Boksburg

Gauteng Premier David Makhura, Gauteng Community Safety MEC Faith Mazibuko and Gauteng police commissioner Lt Gen Elias Mawela led law enforcement’s during Operation Okae Molao, which saw hundreds of suspects being arrested for a range of crimes.

Rondebult, Main Reef and Atlas roads were brought to a standstill this morning, August 22, during Operation Okae Molao (Where is the law).

Motorists where stuck in traffic during the rush hours of this morning while officers from the SAPS, Gauteng Traffic Police and EMPD checked their vehicles and licences.

Operation Okae Molao, which started on July 31, is aimed at reducing the levels of crime in the province for the safety of Gauteng residents.

Makhura applauded law enforcement agencies in the province for their swift arrest of 151 suspects since August 21 in Ekurhuleni.

A total of 49 suspects were arrested for assault GBH, common assault 29, rape five and two suspects were found in possession of firearm with live rounds of ammunition.

SAPS police cards and papers for vehicles that were suspected as stolen were also found.

Police also arrested one suspect who was linked to a murder case in Tembisa.

“The police operations were held throughout the province since August 21 and more than 535 suspects were arrested. In Ekurhuleni, a number of vehicles were recovered that were allegedly stolen, as well as firearms.

“We are going everywhere in the province for these operations to make sure that we deal with crime decisively to make our province safe,” Makhura said.

He highlighted that they are working in corporation with Tracker to track down stolen vehicles.

“We are also happy that there’s an increasing support from businesses and other civil society organisations. In Boksburg there may have been delays on the roads in terms of the roadblocks but we ask motorists to bear with us,” Makhura said.

He urged community members to report crimes and not keep quiet.

Mawela said in Angelo this morning officers arrested three suspects who were allegedly found with explosives.
