Elderly Ramaphosa woman’s electricity meter still not fixed

According to the metro, the matter has been resolved.

A 53-year-old woman from Ramaphosa informal settlement still hasn’t received the help she needs from the Department of Energy following her electricity meter box shutting down in April.

Priscilla Minnaar was caught by officials from the Department of Energy who were doing a site visit in her area when they found that her electricity was illegally connected.

They took her meter box and she paid a penalty fee at the metro offices, but since then her electricity hasn’t been reconnected.

The Advertiser, in June, published her story.

According to Themba Gadebe, metro spokesperson, the matter was resolved on May 30.

“The electricians were threatened by the community, which said no one was allowed to have a prepaid meter. None of the houses in that area have prepaid meters, and the normalisation project was said to be done in July,” Gadebe said.

However, Minnaar dismissed the metro’s claims that her matter was resolved.

“I still don’t have electricity, I’m really struggling. After the Advertiser published my story, electricians came to my house to inspect and said they will come back, but they didn’t.

“No one from my community threatened anyone. Why would they even do that?” Minnaar said.

Minnaar’s neighbour confirmed to the Advertiser that two electricians came to Minnaar’s house, but disputed claims that the community threatened the electricians.
