Metro still looking for contractor to repair damaged library section

The Advertiser reported that as of March last year, the Boksburg Library had more than 3 500 members registered on its database, of which 2 600 were adults, 177 are young adults and teens, 600 minors and nine are educational organisations.

The Advertiser understands the tender process to appoint a main contractor to repair the damaged part of the Boksburg Library adult section roofing structure is moving along.

Part of the structure of Boksburg’s biggest library, located next to the Boksburg Civic Centre, collapsed in February this year.

As a result, the section was declared unsafe, prompting the metro to close it.

The senior librarian at the library, Jacky Moekoa, put it on record that despite the closure of the damaged section, library users still have access to the adult section material, which they can request through the junior section of the library.

After the closure of the section, this publication has been inundated with calls and emails from readers complaining about the state of the facility and that they are still being kept in the dark about when the municipality plans to address the library issues.

Moekoa said their members span a wide diversity of ages and cultures.
