Man (64) shoots two at a tavern

The motive of the killing is not yet known.

A 64-year-old man recently handed himself over to the Dawn Park police after shooting two men in Windmill Park.

According to Const Nkemeleng Mabula, Dawn Park SAPS spokesperson, it is alleged that two men were drinking at a local tavern, which led to an argument.

“It is alleged that while they were arguing the suspect asked why they were fighting and he allegedly shot them both. Both victims were certified dead by paramedics,” she said.

Mabula said through diligent investigation it was discovered that the firearm used was stolen in Bronkerspruit and it was not reported stolen.

“The owner of the firearm, who is known to the suspect, was traced and arrested for reckless and negligent handling of a firearm. The 64-year-old was arrested and charged with murder.”

Meanwhile, the station commander at the station, Lt Col Johannes Makhubo, urged firearm owners to report loss or negligent handling of firearms before it’s too late.

“We will not tolerate anyone who fails or ignores to report loss and theft of firearm. We advise firearm owners to report this immediately at their nearest police station,” Makhubo said.
