New staff to guide Woodlands into digital age

"Coding, robotics, artificial intelligence and related STEM concepts are all passions of mine, and I look forward to sharing learning experiences with the students in these spaces." - IT teacher André Groenewald teacher

Woodlands International College has appointed two new staff members who are experts in their fields.

Ladiné Joubert has taught design, arts and culture, and visual arts at numerous Gauteng Department of Education and Independent Examinations Board (IEB) institutions.

Joubert is also an accomplished member of the IEB as an National Skills Fund (NSF) representative, regional moderator, practical marker and senior sub-examiner for visual arts subjects.

Joubert will be heading up the visual arts department at Woodlands College and taking on the job of pushing Woodlands’ digital landscape to the next level as the head of digital media.

Joubert said: “I am passionate about humanities education and the integration of technology into education spaces as this generation is being raised alongside the convenience and functionality of technology.”

The second appointment sees André Groenewald move into the position of IT teacher and head of STEM strategy.

This strategy helps to empower future generations through science, technology, engineering and mathematics (STEM) to grow a dynamic, innovative economy.

Groenewald has worked in the technical and vocational education and training sector as both a lecturer and information communications technology (ICT) administrator/manager.

His leadership and project management in the implementation and development of a centralised quality management system has positioned Ekurhuleni West College at the forefront of various ISO standard accreditations.

During this time, he was also on the executive committee of the AdaptIT Integrated Tertiary Software User Group, the biggest of its kind globally.

As the chief information officer of a national BEE company, he established, developed and managed IT systems and cloud software platforms, such as learner- and document-tracking applications.

Groenewald has been tasked with developing Woodlands College into a place where young minds are opened to the possibilities that exist in the ever-developing world of ICT.

“I am excited at the prospect of driving the process that will lead Woodlands College’s learners into being at the forefront of technological experiences in the Fourth Industrial Revolution,” said Groenewald.
