A drive around town to enjoy a smoke turns into a near-fatal nightmare

A man is now in hot water for shooting at another whom he thought was a suspected hijacker

A man opened a case of attempted murder against a man who had initially opened a case of attempted hijacking against him.

The incident follows a shooting incident in Morganridge.

Another man (29) opened a case at the Boksburg North SAPS on July 1, alleging that while driving his white Ford Fiesta a silver VW Polo with tinted windows followed him to his driveway.

According to the Boksburg North SAPS spokesperson, Justice Ramaube, the man alleged he saw something like a gun and abruptly made a u-turn, and started chasing after the silver Polo VW.

“He allegedly pulled out his licensed firearm and started shooting at the Polo VW till the driver lost control of his car and hit the pavement next to the tennis court before his vehicle came to a halt,” Ramaube said.

However, on July 2 the driver of the VW Polo, driven by a 27-year-old man, came to open a case of attempted murder at the Boksburg North SAPS.

“During preliminary investigations it was discovered that the 29-year-old complainant shot the other complainant about nine times with only three of the bullets hitting the 27-year-old’s car.

“One bullet hit the left front wheel, two got caught up on the rear bumper and one penetrated through and hit his lower back heap, injuring him,” Ramaube said.

Ramaube said immediately after the 27-year-old realised he was shot at, he drove straight to his house.

According to Ramaube, the driver of the Polo was driving around while smoking to hide his smoking habits from his parents.

The trio task team arrested the 29-year-old suspect and charged him with attempted murder.

His licensed firearm was also confiscated for evidential records. He will appear in the Boksburg Magistrate’s Court soon.
