Stalwart of St Francis Cynthia Dicks passes away

She was a fund-raiser, media liaison officer and social media manager for St Francis, and she actively promoted the services of the centre.

The St Francis Care Centre is devastated after well-known employee Cynthia Norene Dicks (66) died after a short illness on Monday.

Cynthia lived in Boksburg for a long time and has worked for the St Francis Care Centre for 11 years.

According to Tilly Brouwer, the manager at St Francis, and matron Winnie Dlamini, the centre is shocked and saddened by the death of Cynthia.

“We are devastated,” said Brouwer.

“Cynthia will be remembered as a live wire with a great sense of humour. She was loving, caring and was always willing to help everybody.

“She meant a lot to the centre. If I needed tyres for the car, Cynthia would make a plan. She had this wonderful ability to speak to people’s hearts.

“She was so caring to the patients and children at the centre and went out of her way to help them. We wish her husband and son everything of the best.”

She said Cynthia was passionate about keeping donors and the public updated on the centre’s social media pages such as Facebook.

“The cats at St Francis also had a special place in Cynthia’s big heart. She made sure that the cats were fed.

“She was also involved at the St Dominic Catholic Church and served on several committees.”

Brouwer said Cynthia loved baking, antiques and interior decorating.

She is survived by a son, husband, friends and family.

A memorial service will be held at 11am on July 8 at the St Dominic’s Catholic Church, Trichardts Road.
