Water shutdown will not affect Ekurhuleni

Rand Water in terms of its protocols needed to advise all customers of the shutting down of water

The City of Ekurhuleni will not be affected by the 54-hour water outage announced by Rand Water to take place from June 24 to 27.

Rand Water has recently completed a R600-million investment project with construction of the 1300 Ml/d capacity B19 pipeline that will supply raw water from its Lethabo Pumping Station to the Vereeniging Pumping Station.

This pipeline is now ready to be interconnected to the B11 pipeline and as a result a 54-hour shutdown has been scheduled.

According to Clr Heather Hart residents have no reason to be concerned.

“Rand Water in terms of its protocols needed to advise all customers of the shutting down of water. The pipeline runs from the Free State via the western side of the City of Johannesburg via Mogale City to Rustenburg in the North West Province. It doesn’t even come anywhere near the City of Ekurhuleni,” she said.

“Prior to the shutdown of water supply there should be no water outages as all the reticulation systems will have water and the reservoirs will be full. There could, however, be some water pressure problems in high lying areas as water levels in reservoirs decrease,” she added.

Rand Water said the following municipal customers had been advised of the shutdown: City of Johannesburg, Mogale City, Rand West Local Municipality, Merafong City Local Municipality, Emfuleni Local Municipality, Rustenburg Local Municipality and Metsimaholo Local Municipality.
