The Dawn Park police are warning the community of Villa Liza, Windmill Park and Dawn Park to lock their doors when inside their homes and to be vigilant when going out to local shops at night.
According to Dawn Park SAPS spokesperson Const Nkemeleng Mabula,
“We believe that there’s a modus operandi lately where criminals are targeting houses and people who park their vehicles in the yard to go and buy something at the local shops.
“These crimes happen between 8pm and 9pm from Thursdays to Sundays,” Mabula said.
One of the latest incidents involved two friends, who were attacked while sitting inside their vehicle at night in Windmill Park Extension Eight.
“The friends were accosted, allegedly by a man wearing a balaclava. The man fired a shot and, unfortunately, one of the friends was killed. The victim’s vehicle was stolen.”
In a separate incident, a Dawn Park family was robbed inside their house by two suspects who took cellphones, a television and a laptop.
No arrests have been made. The police are investigating.
