Newly registered NPO continues to makes a difference in the community

The group of 11 caring women call themselves Basadi Ba Kopane, which means “women have gathered”.

A group of women from Commissioner Street in Boksburg have officially registered their organisation as an NPO to continue making a difference in the lives of children in Boksburg.

Established this year February, the group of women, who are very passionate about community development, have been donating school uniforms and food to disadvantaged women and children in Boksburg.

Lebai Sethoko, the founder of Basadi ba Kopane, said: “Our organisation focuses on empowering women and children who are less fortunate.

“This comes after we saw a need to reach out to learners who don’t have school uniforms and to donate food to families who go to bed hungry. Since we started we have managed to touch many lives and bring hope to the hopeless.”

So far, one of their biggest successes was when they donated 130 school shoes, 20 school bags and sanitary pads to learners from various schools in Boksburg.

“We hosted a Mother’s Day event which was a huge success. We also cater for women who live in Cinderella, Blue Sky, Railway Station and the Boksburg CBD.”

She said they work closely with Ward 32 Councillor Marius de Vos who assists them to help find employment.

Recently they hosted a high tea fund-raiser to raise money for Zandi’s Angels Orphanage Home and Heaven Sent safe house run by Kuselo Child and Youth Care Services in Boksburg North.

“Last year for Mandela day we hosted the elderly residents of Boksburg where we gave them blankets and feed them.

“This year, we are planning to have a fun walk together with the Ward 32 committee and the ward councillor. We are requesting donations of water bottles, cold drinks, printed T-shirts to hand out to participants, clothes and food,” Sethoko said.

The organisation is in need of any form of donation to donate to the masses and also to grow their organisation.

Anyone who wants to donate can contact Sethoko on 064 359 1791 or Mathebe Motaung on 073 451 0962.
