Cook and Culture can now also be heard on Caxton Radio

Father’s day is coming up, so here are a few tips and tricks to make your father feel special and enjoy the month of June.

Digital: Visit https://superbalist.com/  or https://www.takealot.com/ for some super cool online shopping!

Recipe: Triple cheese and fig braaibroodjies (makes four)

  • Slices sourdough bread
  • Mayonnaise
  • cheddar cheese sliced
  • White mature cheddar cheese grated or mozzarella
  • Camembert cheese sliced
  • 2 onions caramelized and two teaspoons of honey added
  • Green fig preserves- three whole figs sliced.
  • Baby herb leaves

Sour dough bread is dense and works perfect to keep it firm and toasted but stays moist inside.  Spread mayonnaise on bread instead of butter.

On four slices, layer cheddar, white cheddar, caramelized onions, figs and Camembert add a few baby herb leaves and the other four slices bread on top.  Drip or brush with a bit of olive oil on the outside.  Place in a braai grill grid to turn around easy.  Braai on the fire.  Serve with dads favourite steak or lamb chop.

We recommend First Choice Dairy Shop at the K90 centre for all the dairy ingredients. Visit them on Facebook
