Long-standing captain retires at Dawn Park SAPS

Colleagues at the Dawn Park SAPS have described the captain as a humble and ever-smiling man.

Capt Lesole Tshabalala (60) will be reporting for duty for the last time at the Dawn Park SAPS on May 13, following his retirement.

He joined the SAPS in 1987 when the country was engulfed in violence and was then deployed to the Germiston SAPS.

“Not everyone in my family was happy with the decision I took to join the SAPS given the then political situation,” he said.

“I then decided to enhance my knowledge by studying policing at Technikon South Africa, now Unisa.”

His hard work and effort didn’t go unnoticed because he was then promoted to the rank of sergeant.

“In 1993, I requested to be transferred to the Katlehong SAPS due to the violence that was happening in the country. I established my leadership qualities when I became a relief commander,” he said.

Moving to greener pastures in 2013, he relocated to the Dawn Park SAPS as a visible policing commander.

He continued to climb the ladder of success and progressed from a warrant officer to the rank of captain.

“I retire having done my part in combating crime in our country. I leave the SAPS with my tail up, encouraging every police officer to carry the baton forward and conquer crime,” Tshabalala said.
