Four armed suspected criminals were arrested and one of them wounded after a high-speed chase in Boksburg North.
The drama unfolded when members of the Germiston Flying Squad, who were recently patrolling the area, spotted five suspicions-looking men, one of them carrying a gun, climbing into an orange Mini Cooper parked along Third Street.
According to the Boksburg police, the officers tried to stop the suspects but they hastily got in the vehicle and drove off. That’s when a high-speed chase ensued with officers firing warning shots.
The suspects’ getaway ended when officers shot the tyres and one of the suspects. The suspects subsequently surrendered, but one of them escaped on foot.
Police searched the suspects and the car where they found the firearm hidden under the driver’s seat. The injured suspect was rushed to hospital where he is kept under police guard.
The others were detained at the Boksburg North Police Station and were expected to appear in court soon.
The firearm will be taken for ballistic tests to establish if they were used in any other crimes.
