Robbers apprehended and beaten in Lilianton

One of the onlookers complained that he had called the police almost an hour before the Advertiser arrived.

Members of the community have this morning apprehended two young men accused of targeting women while walking along Solomon Road in Lilianton.

When the Advertiser arrived on the scene, the apprehended men were found lying on the ground tied with cable ties around their wrists.

They suffered multiple abrasions, cuts, and bruises all over their upper bodies – a clear indication that they had been assaulted.

It is, however, unclear as to who carried out the beating, but according to information at our disposal, the pair robbed a woman of her bag containing personal belongings, including R800 and a cellphone.

The lady reportedly screamed and passers-by gave chase and managed to catch the suspects before they could run away. The woman’s stolen money was reportedly recovered from one of the suspects, and her bag was found dumped in the nearby veld.

The Advertiser is still waiting for comment from the Boksburg North SAPS, and it’s unclear if the cops eventually arrived on the scene.

An employee from a nearby factory told the Advertiser that the area is known to be a brutal mugging hotspot, adding that armed thugs regularly target pedestrians.

Security guards at one of the nearby factories recently had the window of their guardroom smashed by thugs who wanted to enter the property.
