Suspect sentenced to seven years for house break-in and theft

The suspect was also declared unfit to possess a firearm.

A 30-year-old man has been sentenced to seven years for house break-in and theft.

Last year September, Donavan Venter broke into a 70-year-old victim’s house in Boksburg North.

Through the diligent and thorough investigation of Det Const Milicent Chavalala, the suspect was arrested on September 18.

According to Boksburg North communications officer, Const Justice Ramaube, during the break-in, it was discovered that the suspect broke the back window and went on to damage the victim’s safe and took a revolver and a TV set.

“When he was arrested, none of those items were recovered as the suspect had already sold them.

“However, during the court proceeding on March 12 the accused was found guilty. Two years of his sentence is suspended for five years on condition that he is not found guilty of theft or attempted theft during the period of suspension.”
