Robbers target local businesses

The wave of crime in Boksburg continues unabated.

Armed robbers recently robbed the Pep store in Parkrand Shopping Centre. The gunmen entered the store and held the staff at gunpoint before making off with an undisclosed amount of money and new cellphones.

No injuries were reported and police are investigating a case of business robbery.

• Driving in what witnesses described to the police as a white Polo Vivo, a gang of criminals robbed a Parkrand supermarket on March 7.

The robbers arrived at the business just before 6pm, held the workers and a customer at gunpoint and stole an undisclosed amount of money and two cellphones. No shots were fired and no injuries were reported.

• The Engen garage on Commissioner Street, Boksburg CBD, was also robbed by a gang of criminals on March 7. The complainant told the police that about three men, masquerading as customers, entered the convenience store at the garage and each grabbed an ice cream.

They then proceeded to the tills, where, instead of paying for the items, they took out firearms and aimed them at the cashier while demanding money. They helped themselves to the cash from the till before fleeing the scene. No shots were fired and no injuries were reported.

• Two men, armed with a firearm, robbed the Savemore supermarket on Cason Road on March 8. The thugs entered the supermarket, ordered the workers to lie on the floor and proceeded to steal money from the till. The robbers also packed packets of cigarettes worth about R10 000 into a plastic bag and fled the scene with their loot.

• A resident of Parkdene was robbed of his belongings on the N17 Rondebult off-ramp on March 9. The victim had just pulled off the road when a gunman accosted him and demanded his belongings, including a bag and jewellery. The criminal stole the items and fled the scene.
