Schoolboys accused of raping girl remanded in detention

The Reiger Park SAPS spokesperson, Jan Mokwana, said the state has a strong case against the accused.

The two schoolboys accused of raping their fellow 13-year-old learner in the bushes outside their school have been sent to a Juvenile Detention Centre in Pretoria.

The pair appeared at the Boksburg Magistrate’s Court on March 7 and their case was postponed to March 15.

“We have collected concrete evidence and losing the case is a prospect that appears unlikely,” said the Reiger Park SAPS spokesperson, Jan Mokwana.

The rape reportedly took place on February 28 and the victim and her mother reported the matter to the police on March 6.

The victim told the police that as she was very scared, she kept the attack secret and did not immediately report it to the school and parents or police.

She decided to report the matter only after it came to her attention that the suspects were apparently showing the disturbing rape footage to other learners at the school.

The police questioned the third learner said to have filmed the rape ordeal using his parent’s phone, however, it has emerged that the video has since been deleted.
