GDE outraged by rape allegations at a Boksburg school

The department confirmed that both the learners accused of the crime have been suspended from school, until their appearance at the disciplinary hearing in due course.

The Gauteng Department of Education says it is outraged by the alleged rape incident involving Reiger Park Secondary school learners outside the school, on February 28.

The police reported that the victim, a 13-year-old schoolgirl, was allegedly raped by two schoolboys who go to the same school.

The victim and her alleged attackers were late to school and they decided to use the entrance via the fence at the back of the school, apparently because the main gate was already locked.

“Our psychosocial unit team is currently at the school offering counselling services to learners and we are closely monitoring the situation,” said the Gauteng Department of Education’s spokesperson, Steve Mabona.

Gauteng Education MEC Panyaza Lesufi said, “It is shocking and concerning to see incidents of learner sexual assaults taking place in our environment; this is indeed worrisome”.
