The Gauteng Department of Education is urging parents to take note that placement offers not taken will be forfeited at midday January 18, and as such all parents who were offered space must visit their schools to urgently finalise the process.

The department received a total of 282 823 early applications during the admissions application period (April 16 to May 28) and 37 826 late applications (November 28 to date) for the 2019 academic year.

This translates to a total 320 649 applications (Grade One 172 205 and Grade Eight 148 444) and reflects an increase of 11 894 applications if compared to the total of 308 755 applicants received by the fourth day of the 2018 academic year.

Gauteng Education spokesperson Steve Mabona said it is important to note the department has complied with the obligation of ensuring that every child in Gauteng has been offered a space for learning.

“Parents are encouraged to send children to schools which allocated them space.  Help desks at head office and district offices are available to assist parents on weekdays from 8am to 4pm as from January 7 to 18,” Mabona said.
