A total of 13 dogs and two cats were received at the Boksburg SPCA on December 31 (New Year’s Eve).
So far, two dogs have been claimed by their owners.
Last year, the Boksburg SPCA received seven dogs and one cat with only one lucky dog claimed by the owner.
Boksburg SPCA manager Maggie Mudd has expressed her disappointments of how people have turned a blind eye on the effects of fireworks on pets.
“We are still receiving in stray animals as a result of fireworks which were extremely worse in years.
“We are so saddened that despite the knowledge of the damage that fireworks cause, the people are still using them,” Mudd said.
