Six speedsters arrested in Boksburg over the festive period

The arrested drivers were charged at Boksburg North police station with reckless and negligent driving but later released after each had posted bail of R1 000.

From as early as 5am until 11am on Wednesday, December 26 on N12 eastbound between Trichardts bridge and Atlas turnoff, the EMPD High Speed Unit arrested six drivers for excessive speeding on this 120km/h stretch of the freeway.

According to Chief Superintendent Wilfred Kgasago, EMPD spokesperson, the drivers clocked speeds of 187, 186, 172, 170, 166 and 165km/h.

“They were driving in a black Jeep Cherokee, silver VW Polo, black BMW X5, white Toyota Landcruiser, grey VW Polo and a white Toyota Quantum taxi,” said Kgasago.

“The arrestees were all males with ages ranging between 22 and 47. All cited reasons of rushing home to a relative save the taxi driver who stated that it was ‘rush hour’.”

They are expected to appear in the Boksburg Magistrate’s Court soon.
