Ward 45 councillor calls on prayer to stem road carnage

The prayer session was attended by the Member of the Mayoral Committee (MMC) for Roads, Transport and Planning, Petrus Mabunda.

Community members from Dawn Park, Villa Lisa and other surrounding areas attended the prayer day for road safety on December 6 at Barry Marais Road.

The initiative was organised by Ward 45 Clr Makhosi Lehari, with the aim of asking for God’s intervention to reduce accidents on the roads.

“We have lost so many lives on the road due to high road accidents. In our efforts as a ward we saw it fit to pray at Barry Marais Road together with faith-based organisations against the ever-increasing fatalities on our roads,” Lehari said.

Community members from Dawn Park and Villa Lisa came in large numbers to pray against road accidents at Barry Marais Road.

* Meanwhile, on December 8, Lehari, in partnership with Every Girl, launched the 16 Days of Activism campaign against gender-based violence in Ward 45 at the Mercy Seat Family Fellowship Church in Villa Lisa.

This year marks the 20th anniversary of the campaign in South Africa which is aimed at raising awareness around the creation of a violence-free society.

Members from the Dawn Park SAPS and faith-based organisations around the area encouraged men not to abuse women and children but to embrace, love and protect them.
