Dawn Park Meat Market cooked a full meal for about 400 elderly people from Villa Liza, Windmill Park and other surrounding areas on December 3 as part of their end-of-year closing celebration.
For years, the market has provided meaty bones every Monday for the 400 elderly people who come from disadvantaged backgrounds.
“My father was a people’s person who thought of others first. While he was still alive he would give out meaty bones every Monday in his efforts to make a difference, specifically in the lives of the elderly,” said Thembeka Maseko, owner of the market.
“When I took over the business three years back, I continued with what he was doing because I also love people.
“Today, I decided to cook for them because I always see hunger in their eyes when I give them the meat. I have noticed that some of them come here in the morning with empty stomachs because they haven’t had a meal for a while,” Maseko said.
Monica Mowale (78) from Villa Liza said she enjoyed the food and thanked Maseko for continuing her father’s good deed.
