Factory, five vehicles torched in Jet Park protest

It was also confirmed nine patients were hospitalised.

A factory reception area along with four light motor vehicles and an articulating truck were torched in Yaldwin Road, Jet Park, by alleged plastic industry employees who has been on strike for the past several weeks.

This was confirmed by William Ntladi, district manager media liaison emergency services, in reaction to the damage caused by the strike action that took place on Friday, November 30.

“Emergency services fire-fighters from Boksburg fire station immediately responded to the scene after the reception of the alarm at noon on Friday went off.

“Fire-fighting crews from other fire stations in the district were immediately called as backup to assist due to risk involved.  Three major industrial pumpers, a water tanker, municipal ambulances and those from private medical services, all blared sirens while responding to the scene.

“It was found that the reception area, security guard room, four light motor vehicles and a truck were up in flames.”

He said immediate firefighting interventions were initiated.

“In no time, flames were brought under control and extinguished without any further damage to the structure.

“The truck tractor had extensive damage due to flames while the trailer was salvaged with minor fire damages. The other light motor vehicles were vandalised and had extensive damages as well.

“The alleged perpetrators were not found on scene. The scene was then handed over to the law enforcement units for further investigations.”
