Nine injured in violent protest action in Jet Park

A group of people believed to be part of an ongoing plastics industry strike stormed Jet Park and destroyed properties, including trucks and light motor vehicles.

Netcare 911 confirmed that nine people were injured in strike action on Yaldwyn road in Jet Park, Boksburg last week Friday, November 28.

According to Shawn Herbst, media liaison officer, at 12.15pm paramedics responded to reports of a patient with serious burns.

He said reports from the scene indicated that nine people sustained varying degrees of injuries related to violent protest action.

“A security guard who was trapped in the mob sustained serious burns and was found to be in a critical condition,” said Herbst.

“He was treated on scene by an advanced life support paramedic and due to the seriousness of his injuries the Netcare 2 helicopter air ambulance was called to the scene.

“All the patients were transported to hospital by various ambulance services for further treatment.”

All necessary authorities were on scene to investigate.

The Advertiser is waiting for feedback from emergency services on the incident.
