Apart from women being under attack, there are also reports of children who have allegedly suffered sexual assaults at the hands of close relatives or parents.
Below are some of the sexual assault cases being investigated by the Boksburg police.
• A Boksburg woman claims she was raped by a man inside a kombi on October 25.
The woman told police she was asleep in her shack in Angelo informal settlement when she heard someone banging on the door, apparently to get her attention. She opened the door and met her ex-boyfriend, who was with about six other men.
She was then abducted and taken to Springs, where the ex-boyfriend raped her inside the vehicle.
• An Angelo informal settlement woman was reportedly raped by four men believed to be Lesotho nationals.
The victim told police she left her home with a friend before she was confronted by the rapists who grabbed her off the street and took her to an undisclosed location where they took turns raping her.
• A Boksburg CBD woman claims she was sexually assaulted by a man at a shop along Commissioner Street, in the Boksburg CBD, on October 24.
The woman was subjected to sexual harassment when she entered the shop to buy an item. She told police as she was paying for the item, the shop assistant started to touch her breasts. She pushed the man away but he touched her breast again.
• A father reportedly raped his nine-year-old daughter in separate incidents since earlier this year.
The mother of the victim told police she noticed her daughter had bruises on her thighs and private parts. When questioned, the daughter told her mother her father tickled her when they are alone together.
The daughter claimed her father told her not to tell anyone because that would result in all of them going to jail and that she would grow up without a father. The mother told police she confronted the father, whom she claims threatened to kill her and warned her against interfering in his relationship with his daughter.
The suspect was still not arrested by November 1.
• Another woman told police she was raped by a group of men dressed as police officers on October 30.
The victim and her boyfriend were at home in Angelo informal settlement when the three bogus cops arrived. They first demanded money from the boyfriend before forcing the couple into their double cab bakkie.
When they left the victims’ home, the thugs reportedly told the couple they were taking them to the Benoni Police Station. The criminals, however, pulled over along the veld near the Angelo Railway Station and shot the boyfriend multiple times in his legs.
They then undressed the woman and took turns raping her.
